Mahogany Bay Village Brings Farmers Markets to South Ambergris Caye
Mahogany Bay Village now hosts regular farmers markets at their 60-acre Curio Collection by Hilton resort on the south side of San Pedro Town. Starting January 14th, 2017, Mahogany Bay Market Day will be held the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month, from 11am - 2pm.
The mainstay of Mahogany Bay Market Day is Ian Anderson’s The Farm House Deli, which is Belize’s only traditional European-style delicatessen and gourmet grocery store. The Farm House Deli produces a variety of foods such as homegrown organic produce, homemade cheeses, free range eggs and cured meats, wholesome freshly-baked breads, and specialty health food items such as kefir and kombucha. In addition to selling goods at Market Day, The Farm House Deli is also opening a retail storefront at Mahogany Bay Village in early 2017.
The other primary player in Mahogany Bay Market Day is Ambergreens Aquaponics, whose 2000 sq ft on-site organic greenhouse provides the entire village and its restaurants and stores with fresh greens and vegetables. Currently being harvested are flavorful microgreens, edible flowers, various lettuces and herbs such as mint and dill.
An approximate ten additional vendors will be at Mahogany Bay Market Day in 2017. Existing local businesses are excited to increase their reach by joining in since it will be the one-stop-shop on Ambergris Caye’s south side where visitors can pick up a variety of market goods at once. Other smaller enterprises known to do business primarily at local market events, such as Tracy’s Pierogis, are looking forward to providing a more regular product to the community of Ambergris Caye.
